Taking care of your vehicle will extend its life and keep it in optimal shape. At Acura of Serramonte, we like to help our customers take care of their vehicles. Cleaning an engine is important and should be performed every year or two, but how does one properly clean an engine? Let's find out below.

The best time to clean your engine is on a warm day with low humidity. If your vehicle was recently running, then be sure that the engine is cool before you begin. It is best if you wait about 15 minutes to prevent burns.

Start by removing any plastic components that are housed under the hood, and you can also remove the battery (but this isn't required). Be sure to cover electrical components with plastic before you spray the engine with a degreaser. A synthetic scrub brush should be used to removed caked-on oil and dirt, and you can rinse the degreaser, dirt, and oil with a water hose or sprayer. Compressed air or a towel can be used to dry the engine.
