Brake Fluid: How it Works

Hydraulic fluid, which is also called brake fluid, is an important component of your braking system. It is made to work under extreme temperatures, and you wouldn't be able to stop your car without brake fluid. To give you a better understanding of brake fluid, we invite you to read our content below.

While there are a variety of brake fluids, the two main types are glycol-based and silicone-based. Brake fluid is kept in the brake lines and needs to be drained and changed on a routine basis. Vehicles that have an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) typically need a glycol-based brake fluid, and vehicles that aren't equipped with an ABS will usually need a silicone-based brake fluid. To find out how often your brake fluid needs to be changed, you can reference your owner's manual. In addition, you can also speak with one of our service technicians to learn how often it should be changed.

Next time that you need to have your vehicle serviced, contact our service center at Acura of Serramonte.
